Salvador de Bahia (Brazil) --- September 2000
Salvador is the Bahia's capital.
The temperature is around 25º C, almost all over the year (false, it is very very hot...)
The people is very hospitable...like you can see on the photo!
There is a special mix of race among native indians, portuguese colonisers and african.
The baiana food is a result of the influence of three continents.
In the street of the city we find the "Baianas do Acarajé": womens preparing dish of baiana food.
The photo on the right shows the Rio Vermelho site where there is a beautiful and characteristic square.
In a Rio Vermelho square I spent my free time looking the true soul of Salvador de Bahia.
A special note for the mulata girls...a very special mix among portuguese, native indians and africans!
In a simple way, the salvador's people is cheerful, simple and hospitable.
Images from Pelourinho
The history of Salvador revival with the restauration of Pelourinho (historical center).
Pelourinho was the capital of Brazil from XVII to XVIII centuries.
The photos show the Bahia's folklore. A memory of a day through the coloured Pelourinho's streets
Colors. Music. Poverty. Soul. Confusion. Contradiction. Joy. Peacefulness. Risk. Danger. Irony. Madness.
The last "click" made in Brasil. A memory of a night in Pelourinho.
On tuesday there is a mega party on the Pelourinho street.
Music and folk dance for all the night.
The photo shows the queue front of the Toilet in the most important Pelourinho's square.
This was a special moment for me...
A daily images
A "soccer stadium" submerged in the sea. A wonderful beach. A romantic image...
This photo shows a free moment in a Salvador beach.
I remember the Porto da Barra beach, one of the most popular and near the downtown.
then...
...Itaparica, the biggest island of Bahia, with 240 square Km of beaches!
The Itaparica beaches are goods for the batching. Most of them are protected by reef that, beside stop the strong waves,
is also a natural nursery of polypus and lobster.
